Jasin Ferati / Newsletter No. 7 / 2023 (August 7)
Twice on the podium
For the first win and third place in the rookie classification, the first top 10 classification in the peloton: Jasin Ferati from Winterthur worked his way up the front in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany on the Nürburgring.
Conditions in the Eifel could not have been more nasty. Jasin Ferati was not impressed by this despite a very difficult start to training. On Saturday at the cold but dry Nürburgring, the Winterthur rookie clinched class victory for the first time among the newcomers in the first race. Even more impressive was his performance on Sunday in the pouring rain. In it he stormed into the top 10 for the first time from the 20th starting position and, as the third of the rookies, conquered another podium place. So he gave himself the best present for his 20th birthday.
"To be at the top of the Porsche Carrera Cup and to hear the Swiss national anthem aroused feelings I had never felt before," assured Ferati after the ceremony. "This time it was just the award ceremony for the rookies, at some point I would like to experience it at the highest level." Only nine positions were missing in the second 30-minute race, a spectacular rain battle marked by many incidents, in which he skilfully kept out of the greatest turbulence. The day before he had moved up from 17th place on the grid to 13th place and scored three more championship points in the main field. However, the focus of the third driver of the Schwyz team Fach Auto Tech remains on the annual standings of the newcomers, in which he improved from seventh to fourth place behind Australian Harri Jones and the Germans Theo Oeverhaus and Vincent Andronaco with the podium places on the sprint track of the Nürburgring . “The giant step forward came as a surprise to me too. On the first day of practice after the long break from racing, I didn't really know where to put my foot on the accelerator and the brakes," Ferati said in amazement. “The lap times were correspondingly poor. Regardless of that, I stayed calm and focused and, despite the constantly changing weather conditions, made progress step by step. Thanks to mental adjustments, I felt more and more comfortable in the usual well-prepared and looked after car. The starting positions achieved in qualifying weren't exactly spot on, but they raised hopes and they were fulfilled in both races.” Dominator of the fourth meeting of the season was again the 26-year-old serial winner Larryten Voorde. After two more successes, the experienced Dutchman is already 51 or more points ahead of his closest rivals, who are tearing themselves apart in the back.
