Disaster in the gravel bed

The gravel beds on the Sachsenring have stopped Jasin Ferati's upward trend in the Porsche Carrera Cup. In the first race, the 20-year-old from Winterthur finally got stuck shortly after the start. In the second he was able to free himself again, but lost positions and points again.

The second appearance in East Germany didn't bring Jasin Ferati any luck. In terms of TV presence, no one came close to him, but in the championship standings he had to settle for a single point. The main reason for this is clear: On the venerable Sachsenring, unlike the Lausitzring, there are still gravel beds in the run-off areas. These were the member of the Porsche talent pool's downfall twice - once through no fault of his own, once out of arrogance.

The debacle in the first race started early. Ferati started well from 15th position with the TV camera on board and moved up one position. Ghislain Cordeel, his direct opponent in the rookie classification, absolutely did not want to accept that. The Belgian dared to make an impetuous attack on the second lap, touching Ferati's rear end. Both landed in the gravel bed and couldn't get out. The fact that Cordeel was punished for the maneuver was no consolation. The once again attractive rookie podium was lost, as was the easily achievable top 12 place.

“I was beside myself with anger, I could have destroyed everything. “Luckily the TV camera stopped me,” admitted Ferati. “I was on a podium and he just ran into me. Then he wanted to blame me too.”

Ferati had to take on the second trip to the gravel. Starting again from 15th position, he quickly moved up to 13th place, but then had to watch as the man in front of him lost touch with the leading group. This encouraged him to attack on the finish line, and he clearly missed the braking point. This time he was able to free himself from the gravel trap under his own power, but lost five positions in the process. “That was my mistake, no question about it. I wanted too much and had no patience,” he said. The fact that we still managed to get a point in 15th place was thanks to the turbulent final lap, in which Cordeel this time took on his teammate Alexander Fach.

“It wasn't the weekend I was hoping for. But it was extremely educational because I learned to control myself in difficult situations. Things can only get better at the Red Bull Ring,” Ferati looks ahead.
