World Cup dream burst in qualifying

World Cup dream burst in qualifying

Jasin Ferati made up almost 50 places in the five heats for the Kart World Championship in Finland and still didn't reach the final. After technical problems and the 80th position in qualifying, the handicap was too big.

In the current karting scene, nobody can get past the 20-year-old Lorenzo Travisanutto. Seven weeks after winning the European Championship, the Italian defending champion has on the  Mika-Salo-Circuit in Alahärmä also confidently won the world championship. In a thrilling 25-lap final to packed grandstands, Travisanutto relegated much younger Britons Taylor Barnard and Harry Thompson, Russia's Kirill Smal and initially leading local hero Juho Valtanen to second place.

The OC World Cup final, broadcast in full on Finnish television, was also one of 16-year-old Jasin Ferati's goals for the season. In the two decisive laps of qualifying, however, the man from Winterthur was not able to confirm his previous good training performance. In extremely difficult weather conditions, the Millennium driver did not manage to bring the engine and tires to the optimum operating temperature, remained four tenths of a second behind his previous best time of the day and subsequently had to settle for 80th place in the intermediate classification.  This was tantamount to the almost hopeless 28th starting position in the five 13-round heats, which definitely decided on the finals.

More than a rescue of honor was not possible with this fatal starting position. Ferati was not impressed by this and bravely fought his way forward on a dry and wet track. He was able to improve by no fewer than 49 positions in the five races. Always starting from 28th on the grid, he finished 17th, 20th, 15th, 18th and 21st. "With the same performance further up the grid, the desired place in the final would certainly have been possible," said Ferati angrily. It was no consolation that the sons of well-known racing drivers and many favorites also failed prematurely: "If everything doesn't fit together, an opportunity is quickly wasted. Other opportunities will come.  The season is far from over.”
