In the last race for the championship title

In the last race for the championship title

With a flawless success in the last race on the Circuito Internazionale di Napoli, 16-year-old Jasin Ferati from Winterthur won the German Electric Kart Championship.

To win the last race was a must and he got that chance  not to be missed: Jasin Ferati is the new champion of the internationally advertised DEKM, the world's first and only electric kart series. After a restrained start to the season, the Winterthur rookie has staged itself better and better in the groundbreaking Rotax e-kart Thunder. The 16-year-old culminated in his impressive race to catch up at the Rotax Max World Finals in Sarno. With a start-to-finish victory, he pushed the German Luka Wlömer, who had been leading since the season opener in Wackersdorf, by four points in extremis.

“This title means a lot to me. Even though the deficit was huge halfway through the season, after the unexpected quadruple win in Genk, everyone around me believed that I could still do it. It fills me with pride and satisfaction that we actually managed to do this despite the constantly increasing pressure,” reveals Ferati. “I knew before the last race that, regardless of Wlömer's performance, I needed victory to still be champion. The start was therefore the most important thing. I had to be in the lead after the first corner to control the race and that's what happened. Bradley Barrett drove next to me several times, but he couldn't get past me."

Ferati crossed the finish line 0.391 seconds ahead of the Brit, two years his senior, who had won the previous day's race. So it got really emotional at the finish. Tears of joy were unavoidable. “I had to wait far too long for such a success. But now I know that the enormous effort was worth it and that I can achieve a lot more,” said the new champion without forgetting that this would not have been possible without his environment and a mechanic like Riccardo Negro.

The championship title was not Ferati's only triumph at the season-ending event in Sarno, which was contested by 360 Rotax drivers from all continents. At the 20th edition of the Rotax Grand Finals, he was the first Swiss to be celebrated at the top of the podium.  When the trophy was handed over, DTM driver Ferdinand von Habsburg praised the sporting performance, the technical understanding and the level-headedness of the Swiss motorsport talent: “I am convinced that we will be hearing a lot more from him.” the joint closing ceremony of all participants.
