Missed the first point

Disappointment for Jasin Ferati at the Formula 4 premiere in Misano: The 17-year-old from Winterthur, eleventh in the second race from 16th on the grid, just missed out on the first point in the Italian championship.

Jasin Ferati has two points in the rookie classification after the first race event. He didn't make the jump into the top 10 of the overall standings in the Italian Formula 4 Championship that he was aiming for, coming in 11th, 14th and 16th at the debut in the heat of Misano. “Nevertheless, I draw a positive balance. I learned a lot this weekend,” said the Jenzer Motorsport team driver. “I was a bit too cautious in practice and our tactics didn't work in qualifying. That put me in a difficult starting position. But I was good in terms of speed and the many successful overtaking maneuvers were a real highlight.”

The three Misano races, each lasting 30 minutes and one lap, were an acid test at 34 degrees for the excellent starting field of 22 people from 14 nations. They gave Ferati an emotional roller coaster ride. In the first heat he was held up for too long by Mateusz Kaprzyk from Poland. Only in the penultimate corner did the decisive attack take place, which took him from 17th on the grid to 14th. On the other hand, Ferati presented himself wide awake and aggressive on his 17th birthday on Sunday morning. With a lightning start and maneuvers worth seeing, he quickly fought his way into the top 10. However, a severe braking error cost him several positions again. Thanks to an impressive catch-up race, he finally crossed the finish line in 11th place. That gave him the first points in the rookie classification, but not the birthday present he had been looking for.

The motivation for the third race was all the greater, which, like the previous one, he wanted to tackle in 16th place, but wasn't able to. The Jenzer driver released the clutch a little too quickly, stalled the engine and was the last to start the journey. "I was in shock and glad everyone was able to dodge," he admitted. “It took me a long time to concentrate again and to find the right racing rhythm. I'll definitely do it better next time.” In the final phase, the Swiss man remembered his qualities, turned faster and faster laps, fought his way past six competitors and was classified 16th.
