Best rookie result so far

More than 20 place gains and six points in the rookie classification are Jasin Ferati's positive result at the sixth event of the Italian Formula 4 Championship in Imola. A lot more would have been possible with better qualifying.

Jasin Ferati had mixed feelings about returning to the track after almost a month out through injury. After a successful day of testing in the dry on Wednesday, nothing seemed to go well in the official practice sessions on the partly wet and very cold Imola Grand Prix track. Another setback were the two qualifying sessions, which led to the unpromising grid positions of 23, 22 and 26. The performances of the 17-year-old from Winterthur were again much better in the three races, in which he was able to work his way up to 18th, 12th and 21st place thanks to successful maneuvers.

“After the long break in training, I initially had a bit too much respect for the curbs and problems with braking. Luckily, I found my self-confidence again under racing conditions and managed to get through the laps without making any serious mistakes, although the car really wasn't easy to drive this time," Ferati summed up. “In the first run I was able to improve by five positions, in the second by ten and in the third, after a moment of shock, by seven. A competitor who stopped at the start wanted to switch to my side when I was already next to him and forced me to detour off the track, which cost me a lot of time.”

Since the top drivers from the already completed German championship were also at the start, Imola saw the world's largest Formula 4 starting field of the whole year with 34 drivers. Under these conditions, it was much more difficult to finish in the points. In the rookie classification, which was hard-fought with 26 participants, Ferati still achieved the best result of the season so far with 7th place in the second race. "Improving that and securing third place in the team classification for the Jenzer team are the declared goals in two weeks at the season finale in Vallelunga," he promised.

The decision in the championship has already fallen in favor of the highly regarded Prema driver Gabriele Mini. The 16-year-old Sicilian made everything clear with his fourth win of the season and two second places and was the first Italian ever to secure the coveted title. The Swedish Ferrari protégé Dino Beganovic and the American Red Bull talent Jak Crawford claimed the other race victories and podium places in Imola.
