Clutch problems after a good race

Jasin Ferati Newsletter No. 6 / 2021 (June 8)

After a good race clutch problem

After the second-best result of the season in the first race, Jasin Ferati was forced to retire one day later on the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet due to clutch failure.

First the stand, then the stand: This is not how Jasin Ferati imagined the detour to the Formula 1 track in southern France. After two mixed training sessions, the 17-year-old Winterthur was only three tenths of a second off qualifying for the seventh race of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine as 25th in the impressive 34-strong starting field for a top 20 starting position. The race also went well. Rookie Ferati easily kept up with constant lap times, finished 22nd just 15 seconds behind Hadrien David, who had won for the first time, and thus achieved the second-best result of the season.

The Monolite driver entered the second race the next day with corresponding hope. Already on the two warm-up laps, however, he complained about considerable problems with power development. Nevertheless, he wanted to seize his chance and went to the start despite doubts. After a few laps, however, the problem became more and more serious, so that Ferati was forced to retire for safety reasons. As it turned out later in the workshop, a slipping clutch was the cause of the unstable handling.

“After two difficult practice sessions, we had serious concerns about qualifying at Le Castellet. Fortunately, the vote still worked out. We got the car on time and I could have finished a lot further up the field without making a few mistakes. Overtaking was extremely difficult in the race. I finally finished 22nd and was the best Swiss for the first time,” said a happy Ferati. "Unfortunately, I couldn't get confirmation of that. I already had a bad feeling in qualifying because the engine filled up strangely. The team asked me if I could drive and I tried. After a good start, I lost all positions again because I couldn't really accelerate out of the corners. As the driving behavior became more and more adventurous, I had no choice but to head for the boxes. I was very sad that I couldn't finish the race.”

Who is clearly the fastest Swiss in this championship was confirmed by the 22-year-old from Jura, Grégoire Saucy, who didn't let himself be disturbed by the disqualification in the first race and confidently defended his lead with his fourth win of the season in the reprise.
