Back at the top thanks to maximum points

With two clear victories in the Franciacorta sprint races and thanks to a record-breaking success rate, Jasin Ferati has caught up with Jürg Aeberhard in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Suisse.

It doesn't get any better: Jasin Ferati was credited with the maximum of 59 championship points with the 515 hp Porsche GT3 Cup of the Schwyz team Fach Auto Tech at the first appearance in the Porsche Experience Center in Lombardy. There were 25 points each for the two race wins, three points for pole position and three points each for the two fastest race laps. Halfway through the season, the not yet 19-year-old Porsche sponsored driver and the Bernese veteran are tied at the top. Since the junior, despite stomach problems on Saturday and a minimal use of new tires, had already convinced on the training days, the overall result of the third event of the season remains something very special: In each of the 13 applications, start number 13 led the ranking.

“Before the first practice session, I didn't really know what to expect on the extremely short track. Like everyone else, I've never driven in this modern motorsport arena before," said the man from Winterthur about the starting position. But it went perfectly from the start. “In the first of ten sessions I was first by a rather unusual distance. Then, with the support of the team and the successful Swiss pilot Neel Jani, I worked harder than ever before, continuously improved and set the best time every time. I did the same thing on Sunday morning in qualifying with an unusual lead of 0.341 seconds: the start of an almost perfect weekend.”

The 30-minute race continued in the same style. "I didn't stress myself too much and kept my head clear," Ferati revealed. “I knew I needed a good start from pole position and I got it. When I came out of the start corner safely and was in front, I got everything out of the car and pulled away from the pursuers by ten seconds. Only on the last two laps did I consciously slow down and risk a little less.”

In the hot race three hours later at more than 33 degrees and twice as much in the cockpit, Ferati delivered the confirmation he had hoped for. "I drove off relatively relaxed, did exactly the same thing again and pulled away from the front," he said happily. “But then the safety car had to be deployed and the lead was gone. At the restart, however, I was able to pull myself away quickly and end the great weekend the way it started.”

After the summer break, the championship and with it the gripping duel between Aeberhard and Ferati will be continued from August 18th to 20th at the former Formula 1 circuit of Dijon-Prenois.
