Ferati wins 100 miles of Mugello

After fourth place in the sprint, Jasin Ferati won the Mugello 100-mile race in difficult conditions. Before the final, the man from Winterthur is only nine points behind leader Jürg Aeberhard in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Suisse.

Emotional roller coaster ride with a happy ending for Jasin Ferati at the Autodromo Mugello. Instead of starting from the pole position he had just taken, the Porsche promo driver had to start the sprint race from the pit lane. On the drying track he showed an impressive recovery, moving up to fourth place and also securing the extra points for the fastest lap of the race.

The long-distance race of the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse, which started behind the safety car in heavy rain, was no less exciting for the 19-year-old Winterthur talent with almost 50 vehicles in different categories on the track. From sixth starting position, Ferati catapulted himself to the front of the field with great maneuvers up to the obligatory pit stop, but then found himself behind his championship competitor Jürg Aeberhard due to a driver who was too slow in the pit entrance. Apparently unimpressed by the renewed setback, the Porsche junior passed the Bernese veteran a second time and was the first to see the checkered flag after 31 long laps in the rain.

"This victory in demanding conditions is the biggest and most emotional thing I've experienced in motorsport so far," admitted Ferati. "I cheered, was close to tears and no longer knew what had happened in this dance on four wheels, in which dangers lurked in every corner." That despite many moments of shock he managed to keep his nerve and keep an overview , was something like a matriculation test. "Even in the first qualifying I felt that more is possible in Mugello this time than second place and that has come true," he said.

What followed was as surprising as it was frustrating. “A brief downpour before the start confused everything. For this reason, I didn't manage to start the warm-up lap in time. So I had to wait in the pit lane until everyone else had started and then follow the field with cold tires. That was upsetting and sobering," revealed the man from Winterthur. “I was furious, but still tried not to lose concentration and found more and more fun in the extreme conditions with every successful overtaking manoeuvre. I took a lot of risks to get up front and managed to move up from P18 to P4. In that moment my world was quickly back to normal.”

But not for long. Before the endurance race, it was raining so heavily that it seemed impossible to race. “Many people slipped off the track in the first laps behind the safety car. I too came close several times, but managed to stay on the track and lose control of the 510 hp Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. Going from sixth to first place was like the race of my life,” Ferati said. "I was really happy, I was speechless and just enjoyed the situation. I haven't lost sight of the championship title and I'm already looking forward to the crucial races with the Fach Auto Tech team.” Four out of 13 points are already well done.
